FRED PIETERSEN
Current Position Held: CEO

Years in Built Environment Industry: 25 Years

Experience:   
Fred spent 10 years of his career assuming various positions at the eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development and Facilitation Department. This culminated in him being appointed as the Head of this department. Whilst at the municipality, he was also appointed as a member of the eThekwini Municipality’s Strategic Management team and was responsible for the management of several eThekwini Municipal policy development processes. His professional strengths have led him to develop and strategically manage several Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment deals and empowerment and skills plans for projects such as the R120 Million Umlazi Mega City retail development as well as the R750 million mixed use Ushaka Marine World in Durban.

His entrepreneurial skills are highlighted in years as the Group COO of Crowie Holdings. Fred has gained experience in development management i.e. project and property identification/negotiations, planning (formulation and appraisal), implementation and monitoring. Fred was directly involved in the following major projects during his tenure at Crowie Holdings:

o Bridge City Rail Link and New Underground Station – R600 Million
o Bridge City Shopping Centre – R650 Million
o UKZN – Residences at Westville Campus – R125 Million

AADIL ESSOP
Current Position Held: CFO

Years in Built Environment Industry: 14 Years

Experience:   
Aadil, a registered accountant who joined Focus in March 2005. Aadil’s experience in the commercial construction sphere varied from his intensive involvement in the financial budgeting and reporting of the company, ensuring communication and internal team interaction and adequate Corporate Governance structures is maintained. His expertise includes setting up and managing financial and internal controls of the organisation, human resource management of the organisation, cost management for the individual projects, and setting up and implementing project controls and agreed project specific reporting techniques.

KEVIN MCGILL
Position Held: MANAGING DIRECTOR (FOCUS PM)

Years in Built Environment Industry: 19 Years

Experience:   

After graduating from UKZN in 1996, Kevin has gained varied experience in South Africa, SADC and in the Far East in a diverse range of public and private sector projects in the commercial, industrial, infrastructure, marine/port, pharmaceutical, PPP’s and refurbishment spheres. He is a registered SACPCMP as a Professional Project Manager and is also registered by the CIOB as a Chartered Project Manager and a Chartered Construction Manager.

Currently based in Durban, Kevin manages a portfolio of projects providing professional project development management services. Typically the professional project service covers one or more of the following key areas; Business plans and feasibilities, securing of land and development rights, packaging of projects, turnkey professional services, lead consultant, Principal Agency, construction management and client advisory services.

Kevin has gained experience in a host of projects and in currently directly involved in several Rail Infrastructure, Industrial and Commercial Retail Projects.

RICHARD BECK
Position Held: MANAGING DIRECTOR (FOCUS QS)

Years in Built Environment Industry: 16 Years

Experience:  
Richard has extensive experience in the construction and engineering industries. Some of his other roles varied from Quantity Surveying to Programme Management which broadens his understanding and knowledge of the engineering industry at large. Richard is fully competent in administering NEC, FIDIC, and JBCC forms of contract.

Richard has been responsible for the developments in and around the Bridge City Precinct, and all Rail related projects. These include among others the Bridge City Mall Development, and Intermodal Facility, Bridge City Rail Station and Bridge City Rail Link projects, Duff’s Road Rail Bypass, Dalbridge & Congella Rail Infrastructure Additions and Alterations, Project on behalf of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Ethekwini Municipality and Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) Projects.He is also registered as a Professional Project Manager by the SACPCMP and is PMP accredited.

KELVIN BYRES
Position Held:  DIRECTOR

Years in Built Environment Industry: 16 Years

Experience:    
Kelvin has extensive experience in the built environment as a professional project and construction manager. His experience covers a broad spectrum of local and international projects across several sectors and roles. Assisting large corporate organisations fulfill their development and shareholders mandates, is a particular strength. He has successfully managed larger multi-phase projects and initiatives that require wider understanding of the client operating environment as well as the realities within which the projects are delivered. In order to manage these types of projects Kelvin’s ability to employ modern project control and management techniques brings added value to Focus’ clients.

Appointed as a Director at Focus, Kelvin is responsible for a portfolio of commercial and public sector projects. Kelvin has successfully delivered projects within operating environments such as corporate offices, airports, shopping centres and industrial plants (Sugar Mills).

MARTIN DONNELLY
Position Held: DIRECTOR

Years in Built Environment Industry: 19 Years

Experience:    
Martin is a Director at Focus based in the Durban Office, covering a national footprint of key projects within the Focus Portfolio. His portfolio expands across all built environment fields of the Private and Public sector and strengthens the business through further development of existing and new areas of business for the Group.

He is a motivated, efficient and personable leader who has developed these proficiencies through 17 years of experience in business and on projects in Sub Saharan Africa. His project experience includes various roles on projects in Clients Agency, Project and Program Management, EPCM and EPC projects. His wide-ranging sector experience includes; Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Education, Sports, Warehousing, Oil and Gas, Retail, Leisure and Civil infrastructure.

His technical strengths are the establishment and management of complex multi discipline projects. His ability to adapt to new business environments and to new sectors within the construction industry is demonstrated by the varied projects that he has successfully led and the business units that he has managed. He has strong ethics and moral standards and prides himself in delivery of a quality product.
