In 2017 we launched this initiative (a collaboration between Focus, Loliwe Rail Solutions and the SAICE Durban branch) and are proud to announce that with the 3rd one in the bag – we have grown this initiative to include more for the kids of Umlazi in KwaZulu Natal.
In 2019, further to funding the chance for students (of 5 schools) to have their physical science experiments demonstrated to them by the qualified technicians of Midlands Community College, we arranged for the Grade 11 students to attend a career guidance workshop to assist in bridging the gap from transcending school life to the professional world. We noted the lack of know-how in this area from the previous initiatives and decided it was much too integral to not meaningfully contribute towards improving.
Whilst Physics was the main order of the day, the Focus/Loliwe Team and SAICE committee members provided the students with answers to their questions regarding career choices, options for tertiary education and bursary information.
This initiative always gives us a sense of contribution and accomplishment second to none!
